East of England Development Education Network (EEDEN)
Working together as a region
NEAD is one of 11 education organisations (footnote) 1 in the Eastern Region that are working together through the East of England Development Education Network (EEDEN). EEDEN is funded by the Department For International Development (DFID), which has similar initiatives in each region.
EEDEN aims to build capacity in the education system to ensure that teachers are equipped and motivated to provide young people with a global view.
Three part-time EEDEN coordinators work on behalf of the network to:
- initiate and share effective ways to bring a global dimension into all areas of the school and ITE curriculum;
- enable statutory mentoring services and non-governmental resource providers to offer sustained support and effective training to teachers.
Defining the Global Dimension
EEDEN defines the Global Dimension as:
…education that enables pupils to engage with global issues, experience and value diversity, understand how their choices impact upon the lives of others, and act wisely and fairly for global sustainability.
