Description of the sessions

Building cultural bridges through Dance, Music and Storytelling

Tambai Promotions was set up by Anna Mudeka in 2001 as a way to encourage cultural activities for all age groups through performances and workshops in African music and dance. The main aim is to give people of all ages an experience of African music and culture in a fun-filled environment and also to celebrate, promote and educate. They have been based in the Eastern region for the past ten years and their work has been on demand nationwide. They have worked extensively in schools, festivals, arts centres, and community centres across the region and beyond. In the past, they have worked alongside local venues, across the UK and Europe and, most recently in Singapore, to help and promote cultural events.

African Music and Dance and Storytelling

Anna Mudeka workshops and performances involve a lot of audience participation within a relaxed atmosphere. It's an enjoyable experience for everyone who takes part, no matter what the age group, and will leave participants with a memorable journey through Africa.

Workshops

Tambai's educational programme works to link into the national curriculum and focuses on raising awareness of cultural diversity through the arts. Workshops run in schools, festivals and various venues and are tailor-made to suit any age group and ability. Drumming rhythms are an accompaniment for dances and, once the students have learned a pattern, Anna Mudeka then demonstrates the dance.
