NEAD Projects

Our current projects

We Are Norfolk

is a 3-year project in which the key focus is developing educational opportunities and activities to address the current local issue of the large numbers of new community members in the West Norfolk area, and the associated tensions this can bring. Topics covered will include local cultural diversity and the global millennium development goals, at an age-appropriate level. As one head teacher pointed out, this is a real area of need for us, and the project is being welcomed by both and the Community Cohesion Development Officer. We hope to work with the Community Cohesion team to develop a quality monitoring and evaluation toolkit for this type of work.

Our past projects

Global Messengers

was a 3-year project that aimed to develop ways to support ASTs (Advanced Skills Teachers), LEA Advisers, ITE (Initial Teacher Education) tutors and others who regularly visit schools in order that they could help teachers in schools across East Anglia who want to integrate international development issues into their teaching and across the whole school curriculum.

Students 4 Global Action

Global Schools UK

NEAD was invited to be part of , a national project. We worked with six secondary schools to develop ways in which a greater global dimension could be introduced into at least six of their curriculum areas.

Rights Respecting School Awards

The is a pilot project set up by UNICEF UK to see how the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child can enhance teaching, learning, ethos, attitudes and behaviour in schools. It seeks whole-school change in areas of the curriculum, policy and via the promotion of active citizenship amongst all in the school community (not only students and teachers).

Developing Local Partnerships for Global Events

Our project coordinated a range of activities in the local community. Working with others, NEAD provided support for local initiatives and national events such as Black History Month, Fair Trade Fortnight and Refugee Week.
