We Are Norfolk: East

NEAD launched We Are Norfolk:East in Great Yarmouth and across East Norfolk in 2009, with funding for three years of support from the Department for International Development (DFID).

It is a great endorsement of  We Are Norfolk: West project's success that DFID wanted to extend the project to the East of the county too.

We Are Norfolk: East enables us to work closely with all the primary schools in the eastern region, supporting global learning in the classroom across the full range of curriculum subjects. We will also work with local people from different backgrounds to meet their training needs and develop their skills to become classroom facilitators, exploring the similarities and differences between different cultures using music, dance, food, arts and a range of fun cultural activities. Opportunities to support links between schools and communities, both local and global, are being taken, and we hope to continue to be part of local events and activities with a global or community theme.

Great Yarmouth's resources library is now well stocked with resources covering topics across the whole of the Global Dimension spectrum. These are FREE for NEAD member schools to borrow. We can even bring selections of our resources to your school for teachers to peruse and borrow. The library now also includes artefact boxes - an ever growing collection including China, Botswana, Spain and Portugal.

A brand new fully comprehensive cross-curricular teaching pack linked directly to the curriculum has been produced by We Are Norfolk: East already.

The resource focuses on Global Citizenship, linking Norfolk farming communities with comparable agricultural communities in Ghana (sugar), Kerala (fishing) and Mexico (arable). This is an exciting resource; ready-to-use and relevant to all primary schools in Norfolk. Thanks to Katrine Pringle, NEAD associate and Norfolk primary school teacher for her remarkably thorough and creative work!

WAN:East has also piloted and developed a mini-project: The Windmill Project. In The Windmill Project NEAD forms a partnership with The Broads Authority, The National Trust and a creative facilitator ensuring the project is an engaging, interactive resource for primaries, marrying the twin aims of increasing understanding of climate change and sustainable development, and improving writing skills.

We always seek parental permission before using images of young people. We also aim to seek permission from adults where possible. If you do not wish your image to be used, please contact us and we will make every effort to remove it from any NEAD materials straight away.
