About

NEAD provides local learning for better global futures. Across East Anglia (UK) we support teachers, schools, partners and other educators (and communities) to deliver education on global issues.
NEAD aims to show the links — environmental, economic, cultural, historical —existing between people, thereby raising awareness and knowledge of inequalities in our world, and their causes. We urge YOU to take action to create a more just and sustainable world!

There is a clear need for our work:

  • More than 2 in 5 (43%) teachers do not feel confident teaching about the impact of emerging economies on life and work in the UK
  • The vast majority of teachers (80%) are motivated to stay in the profession by thinking about how teaching contributes to making the world a better place

DEA IPSOS research, March 2009

  • 20% of teachers were unable to suggest what was needed when asked what resources or support schools would welcome to teach the global element. However those who had a view suggested; INSET, translation support, artefact boxes, visitors from various countries (World Voices)
  • When asked if schools were able to fulfil their community cohesion obligations, most schools were unaware of them and what was meant by the terminology. Following exploration 50% suggested that they could fulfil the obligations; the remainder were unsure or felt that they were not able to.
